YOGA: DON'T DO IT FOR THE GRAM
Yoga is all the rage right now. Yoga pants are a part of everyday fashion, and Instagram feeds are inundated with super bendy yogis in pretzel-like poses. We are all for the increasing popularity of yoga, and we wanted to share with you a few reasons to adopt yoga into your daily routine that have nothing to do with social media likes.
It's good for the body.
Yoga enhances your flexibility, increases circulation, strengthens muscles, and improves your balance. Not only that, but yoga reduces stress, and if you've read our recent 5 Fast Facts Friday post on stress, you know how beneficial reducing stress is for your body.
It's good for the mind.
The reduction of stress does more than lower your risk for heart disease. It makes you feel good! Less stress = better mood. Which can lead to better sleep, stronger relationships, and overall a happier you.
You'll breathe easier.
A huge part of yoga is controlled breathing. A deep breath in and a deep breath out will help improve lung function and help you tune into relaxation.
You'll feel more centered.
Ever heard of people working their problems out on the mat? Well, it works. Yoga can help you focus on the present and become more aware. It opens the way to improved coordination, better memory, and can even boost your creativity.
Yoga looks beautiful in photographs, and it's great to document your progression with yoga through photography. That being said, we hope that new yogis (and even the veteran yogis) remember that yoga is so much more than a pretty picture.
