HOW TO STAY SANE THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS
We’re more than halfway through the month of December. AHH! Shopping. Wrapping. Traveling. Traffic. Crowds. Not to mention finishing up at work. Planning for the new year. And a never ending stream of holiday parties. Ugh. Pass the egg nog because we’re going to celebrate the holidays wearing fuzzy socks, watching Netflix, and hiding in a blanket fort. Did we mention drinking eggnog? We realize we aren’t alone in dreaming of some serious couch time, so we put together this short list of ways to stay sane.
Set a budget and don’t stray.
While we love shopping as much as the next person, the holiday season is also known as the season of over spending, and overspending can easily lead to stress. By sticking faithfully to a pre-set budget, you’ll probably experience a little less financial stress. Although, even with that Christmas bonus, it can be hard to stick to that budget. One easy to follow tip: skip the ribbons and bows. They look great, but they are expensive, detrimental to the environment, and likely to end up in the bin immediately after unwrapping.
Don’t over extend yourself.
If you’re hosting a party, you shouldn’t be afraid to let go of some control and delegate a few tasks. You could even take it one step further and declare your party is a potluck! Just try to remember that the holidays are for having a good time and spending time with friends and family.
Keep your body healthy.
Don’t forget to eat 3 meals a day and clock in 8 hours of sleep a night – or at least try to get 8 hours a night. Sometimes that can be a lofty task. That being said, a healthy body is a happy body, and a happy body is more likely to house a happy mind.
Even after all of that, it’s very possible that you’ll still be a little stressed during this holiday season, which is completely fine. Trust us; you aren’t alone in that. The best tip we can give you to stay sane during the holidays is to stay present, take a deep breath, and don’t sweat the small stuff.
