We LOVE our citrus fruits. Cara Cara Oranges, Grapefruits, and Lemons - the 30Fifteen team cannot get enough. Not only are citrus fruits zesty and delicious, they have a ton of secret health benefits, which we want to share with you now.
Lowers Stroke Risk
The American Heart Association Journal conducted a study that showed women who consumed high amounts of flavanone through citrus fruits and juices had 19% lower risk of suffering a blood clot related stroke.
The Journal of Biomedicine and Biotechnology in 2012 found mandarins could inhibit tumour growth in tongue, colon, and lung tissues.
Citrus is EXTREMELY high in Vitamin C, which is great for your eyes, as the nerve cells in your retinas require high amounts of it. So, the more citrus you eat, the more likely you are to maintain your eyesight.
Lowers the Dosage of Some Drugs
In 2012 the University of Chicago conducted a study that found grapefruit juice could increase the efficiency of some certain drugs - lowering the dosage. However, citrus has also been known to LOWER the efficiency of certain drugs, so always consult a doctor or pharmacist beforehand.
Japanese research suggests that an aromatic compound (linalool) found in lemons can actually lower stress levels. That explains why we're so obsessed with our aromatherapy citrus oil!
