ARE YOU DRINKING ENOUGH WATER?

ARE YOU DRINKING ENOUGH WATER?

Water covers 71% of the earth's surface and makes up 60% of the average human's body weight. Are you drinking enough? Turns out dehydration can drain your energy, making you tired and achy, so Team 30Fifteen does they're best to drink enough water to flush all the toxins from our system and keep our bodies happy!

How much do you actually need?
We've all heard the old phrase, "eight 8oz. glasses a day," and its not the worst advice. But how much EXACTLY do we really need? Science says that the average woman living in a temperate climate needs to consume 2.2L of water, and the average man living in the same climate should be consuming 3L. Of course, this estimate changes depending on your fitness plans, how hot it is outside, and if you're sick or pregnant.

How can you drink more?
Sometimes it can be hard to drink that much water, but luckily, we have a few tips and tricks up our sleeves to max out your water intake.

- Add some flavor! We like to throw some cucumber slices into our water with a bit of lemon juice for an added punch. You can also add other citruses, berries, or mint.
-Keep track of your intake with apps such as Carbodroid or Daily Water Free. You can also invest in a water bottle that has markings on the side to keep track.
-Choose sparkling water instead of soda. Everyone knows that soda isn't great for your body, so if your craving something bubbly, reach for the Perrier instead of the Pepsi. You'll lower your sugar intake AND be drinking more water. Two birds. One stone.
-EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGGIES!! Your diet can account for a substantial amount of your water intake if you eat a ton of fruits and veggies like watermelon, grapefruits, celery, etc.

There's really not much downside to increasing your water intake. It IS possible to drink too much, overloading your kidneys and flushing electrolytes and sodium. Over-hydration is definitely unlikely, especially if you exercise regularly or live in a hot climate, but keep an eye out for symptoms such as headaches and nausea.

We're going to go refill our water bottles! Leave us a comment.
