9 THINGS TO REMEMBER TO MAINTAIN INNER PEACE
Life is stressful. There’s no way around that, so how do you find inner peace when you’re surrounded by chaos? Well, every journey is different, so we can’t tell you exactly how to discover your own personal inner peace, but 30Fifteen has some ideas that might help you find your way.
1) No one else can define you.
That is if you don’t let them. Ultimately, you get to decide how you want to define yourself, and whether or not you decide to take other people’s definitions into consideration is up to you.
2) You are enough.
You’re not missing anything. You are whole, and you are amazing. You don’t need anyone or anything to complete you.
3) Perfection is a human made illusion.
Whether it’s looks, body shape, education, or your work life, there’s no such thing as perfect. The idea of ‘perfect’ is a human construct, so don’t let it make you feel inferior when you don’t conform to somebody else’s idea of perfect.
4) You are not your thoughts.
We are all guilty of negative self-talk from time to time, but that negativity doesn’t have to define you. When you are having those negative thoughts it helps to acknowledge that you’re having them, take a deep breath, and remind yourself of all the positive things you’ve got going for you.
5) You can choose to be happy.
This one is a tricky one, because if you happen to be dealing with things like anxiety and depression, making the choice to be happy is a lot more difficult. Still, they say that if you make a conscious choice to be happy every morning, you’re more likely to live a healthy lifestyle.
6) The past and the future exist in your mind.
Now, is the only real moment, which I guess is why there are so many famous quotes telling us all to live in it. The past exists in your mind as a memory and the future as a dream, so it makes no sense to focus our energies there, when we could be focusing them on the now.
7) Challenges are gifts for growth.
Challenges are hard and scary, and let’s be honest, sometimes a Netflix binge and a nap make way more sense. But if you start thinking about challenges in your life from a new perspective, you might see an increase in inner peace. Try thinking of challenges as gifts rather than inconveniences. They’re like rain is to a flower – it’s cold and wet, and they block out the sunlight, but in no time at all, the flower blooms.
8) Equate forgiveness to freedom.
We don’t really forgive people for their sake. We do it for us. By handing out forgiveness, you free yourself up from the negativity of the situation.
9) Be unapologetically you.
Does this one even need explaining? Be you! And don’t be afraid to do it without apology. Unless you’re a total jerk, but we highly doubt any of our readers are jerks.
Now you have some tools to find some gosh darn inner peace in this crazy, hectic, super stressful world. You’ve totally got this.
