YOU CAN OVERCOME SELF-DOUBT
Self-doubt is an absolute dream killer. In fact, most people are too scared to take the first step towards reaching their dreams because of self-doubt. Don’t get us wrong, we know that taking the first step can be terrifying, especially when you are a big dreamer. Here are a few ways that we overcome our self-doubt.
Change your ‘what ifs’
Questions that start with “what if” often end all too negatively.
“What if I embarrass myself?”
“What if I can’t handle it?”
What if I fail?”
It’s unfortunate that these are the questions that we ask ourselves because they are so negatively charged. If you feel yourself thinking about your goals in this way, pause. Take a deep breath and re-center. You can fight your self-doubt by changing the way you finish your ‘what ifs.’
“What if I inspire others around me?”
“What if I’m actually really good at this?”
“What if this helps me grow in positive ways?”
“What if I succeed wildly?”
Look to the past.
Sometimes, when you’re feeling doubtful, it’s helpful to look to the past for positive memories. For this tactic, it helps to start keeping a journal, documenting the days when you are feeling happy and successful. Remembering the good times can boost your mood and your confidence.
Talk to someone about it.
Your internal monologue can easily distort reality, especially when it comes to self-doubting thoughts. It helps to talk it out with someone. Whether it’s a close friend or your mom, you’ll probably find that a relaxing conversation with someone who loves you has a powerful effect and can seriously improve your confidence.
