3 THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU ARE FEELING OVERWHELMED
Tis’ the season to well… let’s face it, get a little overwhelmed. There just seems like there are so many things to remember, but let’s not let the season get the better of us, and remember to one or all of these three when that overwhelming feeling kicks in. This isn’t just applicable for the holiday season, you can use this at any time you feel like this.
1. Only Do What You Can
I think to a certain extent we all like to think we can do it all, but we can’t. Some tasks should just be delegated so that you can focus on tasks that you can achieve and reduce y our load. Try this. For the next few days, before you do anything, ask yourself: Am I the only person who can do this? Should I be the only person who can do this? If the answer to either question is no, don’t do it... delegate it to someone else. If the first answer is yes but the second answer is no - hire or train someone to do that task, and then delegate it to them. Note though if you’re applying this to your family life – maybe don’t attempt to “hire or train” your S.O. or family members – that might not go down too well!
2. Stay Conscious
A lot of us think we are spending our time productively but when you look in detail a lot of is wasted on miscellaneous tasks that are not productive. That’s why staying present or conscious to what you are doing, that way all your time will be used efficiently. Its important to take breaks for the mind, and engage in social activities for your health, but try not to let yourself enter mindless zone.
3. Find Time to Think
This might sound counter intuitative when you’re so busy but it works. Take 15 minutes out of your day, no matter how slammed you think you are, and look at your life, work and tasks you need to accomplish. Those 15 minutes can feel like a little mini-vacation, lowering your heart rate and your blood pressure in a way that can feel truly rejuvenating. And that can free you to see your way through a challenging situation, or to think fresh about
So, try these next time you’re feeling overwhelmed.
